Glossary
BIOS and Card Software
A listing of available BIOS and PC Card (PCMCIA) related software. The software is primarily available from the independent Software Vendors, some Intel developed reference code is included (source and/or excutable).

Card Drives
Hardware and software that add flash PC card support to existing desktop systems. These products support industry-standard buses such as ISA, PC-104 and SCSI.

Computer-Aided Engineering Tools
Computer software that helps specify, design, simulate, and verify system designs such as VHDL/Verilog models, IBIS Models, schematic symbols, TimingDesigner* models and reference designs.

Flash File Systems/Media Managers
Flash software helps you utilize flash the way you need to use it. Flash File Systems oversee the handling of data (parameters, run-time modules, files, etc.) in flash. Flash Media Managers deal with the mundane low-level flash tasks such as virtual sectors creation, cleanup, wear-leveling, etc. so your code doesn't have to. The Utilities cover the rest of flash functionality and usability. Code is generally available in royalty-free source code or from third-party independent software vendors.

Flash Memory Emulators
A hardware device that emulates a flash memory chip. It responds to flash commands such as byte writes and sector erases, and also provides feedback, error messages and positive verification of embedded algorithms for writing to flash.

Lead Inspection Equipment
Optically inspects package lead quality and ensures proper lead integrity for high-yield board manufacturing.

Media Services (Tape and Reel, Trays)
Service providers who provide a complete line of value-added media packaging services such as tray, tape, tube transfer packaging, lead inspection, special kitting, etc.

Off-Board Programming Equipment (Automated)
Automatically loads devices from shipping media into programmers, then back to shipping media. Handlers support a wide variety of packages, including latest-generation small outline options such as PSOP, SSOP, TSOP and chip size packages such as the µBGA* package.

Off-Board Programming/Media Services
Services providers who offer turn key solutions for off-board programming, lead/laser mark inspection, and media packaging services.

Off-Board Programming/Media Services (US Distribution)
Services providers who offer turn key solutions for ordering Intel products, off-board programming, lead/laser mark inspection, and media packaging services.

On-Board Programming Equipment
Flash memory on-board programming (OBP) is accomplished through a variety of different methods. This section highlights equipment used to perform OBP such as Automatic-Test-Equipment (ATE) or JTAG alternatives.

PROM Programmers
Equipment that enables code/data storage within flash memory components and cards. A variety of vendor-supplied products support prototyping and production environments. Intel also offers the FlashPRO-II programmer, which supports the Intel Flash memory product line.

SIMMs/DIMMs
Memory modules that provide flash memory product and density flexibility in standardized form factors and pinouts.

Socket Adapters
Hardware that modifies programmers and other equipment with DIP sockets to add support for new packages (such as PSOP, SSOP and TSOP).

Sockets/Socket Tools
Prototyping/Programming Sockets are designed for a large number of component/card insertions and removals while Production Sockets trade fewer component/card insertions/removals for lower cost. Socket tool profiled is the precision vacuum wand for Intel packages.

Tape and Reel Equipment
Wide variety of tape and reel eqipment which transfers devices to/from various media types (trays, tubes, tape and reel). Equipment features include lead/mark vision inspection and other options.

Voltage Converters
Analog circuits that adapt existing system voltages to provide the necessary voltages, tolerances and current outputs for flash memory read and write operations.
